The Winterthur Archives, 1860-1969, records the development of the Winterthur estate as a private residence and the creation and development of the Winterthur museum. It documents a period of collecting and patronage, evolving attitudes toward period rooms in the twentieth century, and aspects of early twentieth-century taste in landscape design.

The Archives includes papers relating to Winterthur compiled by Henry Francis du Pont and his immediate family, Winterthur Farms records, and the administrative records of the museum. Among the materials are turn-of-the-century autochrome photographs of the Winterthur Garden and landscape architectural drawings reflecting the development of Winterthur and its ultimate transition from a home to a public museum, and H. F. du Pont's correspondence with antique dealers between the 1920's and 1969, the year of his death.

For the purpose of the PAB database, the drawings are described in artificially designated collections. Not included here are drawings for other Henry Francis du Pont residences in Boca Grande and New York City, Chicago buildings, HABS drawings from outside Philadelphia, and Marion Coffin drawings other than for Winterthur. A database inventory is available at Winterthur.
