Since 1867, the mission of the Fairmount Park Commission has been to preserve the purity of the drinking water and to maintain the land as an open public place and park for the health and enjoyment of the people of Philadelphia.

Collections
The archives include minutes (at Philadelphia City Archives), annual reports, history files, photographs (including 1870 Cramer stereographic views) and slides, maps and drawings, engineering records, scrapbooks, 1854-1963. Other miscellaneous records include Fairmount Park Art Association annual reports, 1871-1976, Committee on the Guard reports, 1911-1961.
The drawings surveyed for PAB include only those for identified structures or drawings with an identified architect. Some landscapes by noted landscape architects or those with drawings of structures are recorded. Not recorded are Fairmount Park bridges, and Fairmount Park engineers drawings.
