Before the Eutaw Place synagogue was constructed, the congregation was housed in the former Fifth Presbyterian Church, on the east side of Hanover Street between Pratt and Lombard. The purchase of the church was completed on 11 April 1858, according to the Louis F. Cahn book (p.23).
